Blocking repeat Spam with Airmail Filters

I have been jusing Airmail with Spam Sieve (3.1) for some time now. Mostly, it does a good job of collecting spam to the Spam folder. With Spam mail that does get through, the log says SS hasn’t seen it, which i surmise means something in Airmail has moved it to the inbox after SS has scanned it?

Anyway, my real question is that Airmail has some powerful Rules that can be configured. I started using these because, while SS does filter the spam to the Spam folder, I get tired of going thru dozens and dozens of spam from the same senders. For instance, Renewal by Anderson, Orangetheory Fitness, and JG Wentworth to name three. They usually will use different “from” addresses, but there’s almost always something in the from:, subject:, or to: that I can use. So I set up a rule to move them to the trash, and play a sound. For instance, see attached screenshot of one I use for “political” spammers. (Hope you can see this, couldn’t find “attach” so used “upload”)

My question is: Am I messing up SS with these rules? As they’re usually working with the Spam folder, not the Inbox, I wouldn’t thinks so, but…?

Thanks, Chris

No, that means that Airmail never sent it to SpamSieve for analysis. If SpamSieve had scanned it and thought it was not spam, it would say Predicted: Good in SpamSieve’s Log window.

This is OK because the messages are already in Spam.

If the rules were targeting the inbox, that could be a problem because if SpamSieve missed a spam message and the rule moved it to the trash, you wouldn’t know to correct the mistake. In that case, the solution would be to turn off auto-training.

Michael, do you have any idea why Airmail would not have sent it to SpamSieve?

Thank you!

I don’t know. I think if you have SpamSieve enabled in Airmail it should be sending all the messages. If you go to Airmail’s Window menu and choose Operations, it will open a window showing a log of Airmail’s actions, and perhaps it will show a relevant error message.

Operation’s window very helpful, thank you again.
