Changed Spam folder, now I am getting spam

I changed my Spam folder from Spam, as outlined in the instructions, to the Trash folder on my Mac (using the option as described in the instructions so as to have the messages deleted after time), and now I am getting a ton of spam. Did I miss something? Do I have to retrain all over again?

I followed the instructions and some spam is getting sent to the trash folder, but there is a lot coming through now.

Are you referring to the Changing the Name of the Spam Mailbox instructions?

Changing the spam mailbox should not affect the filtering accuracy or training. Please see Why is SpamSieve not catching my spam? for how you can find where the problem is.

I figured it out: When I changed the mailbox, I also changed the rule to whitelist my previous recipients, but in doing so mistakenly I chose the wrong option. I have rectified it and now everything is working fine again. Thank you Michael.
