Emails moved from inbox to spam but are good

Hi.

Emails that I have checked on my iPhone and left in inbox, are moved to spam on my Mac. It seems to be Spam Sieve that does this.

Why and what can I do about it? Is it due to the new category thingy?

What does “checked” mean? Did you mark the messages as read?

Do you mean a local mailbox? Are they not shown in the server Junk mailbox on the iPhone?

Did this happen right after you saw the messages on your phone or after a delay?

What makes you say that? Does the Log window say they were Predicted: Spam?

The Apple Mail categories feature has nothing to do with spam filtering or which mailbox the messages are in.

Hi Michael.

Sorry about this. Since English isn’t my first language there are obviously some mistakes I have made in the text.

  1. With checked I mean that I have checked them out. Read them. And then left them in the Inbox.
  2. No I don’t use a local mailbox. I use the inbox on my mail server which is hosted at my ISP. The emails are moved to the spambot named “Spam” that I have set up according to the instructions. Also as a note, this issue turned up just the other day. I have used SpamSieve for ages so it is not something that has to do with me changing things or so. I use MacOS 26.1 and Spam Sieve 3.2.2
  3. It happened when I logged in to my email on my Mac. I check the mail on my iPhone now and then. And the emails I have opened but left in inbox are the ones that end up in Spambot on my Mac when I open the Apple Mail-app.
  4. The thing hat makes me say that is Not to criticise you or your app. Sorry if I stepped on some toes there. I just can’t really see what else it can be, since the problem arose when updating to 3.2.2 The reason why I ask is Not to cast blame on anything, sorry tyat you seem to take it like that. I just would like to get some ideas on what might be the problem before I start asking my web hotel owner to see if there has been some issues at their end that might cause this

Hope this is enough information.

OK. SpamSieve normally doesn’t look at messages that are already marked as read.

Do you mean these instructions? SpamSieve will move messages to the mailbox with the special × icon. In English this is called Junk. Normally, when people refer to the Spam mailbox they mean a mailbox that’s literally called Spam, which is not related to SpamSieve, though perhaps that’s the name for the special × mailbox in your localization.

I don’t take any offense. I’m just trying to understand precisely what you are reporting.

The best way is to look at the message colors or in SpamSieve’s Log window. If SpamSieve classified the message as spam, it will say that in the log and it will also say why. If it’s not due to SpamSieve, there are some other possibilities.
