Error viewing alias

I’m trying to have a file in multiple locations without duplicating by creating aliases in the file structure from the command line.
The alias appears and eaglefiler even seems able to read it, the preview of the pdf shows correctly as expected, but every time I click the file I get an error in the window “The file couldn’t be opened” with detail

Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=256 “The file couldn’t be opened.” UserInfo={MJTStackFrames=(
“-[NSURL(MJTFiles) mjtWaitForCoordinatedReadAndReturnError:] (1136)”
)}

2 questions:

  • Am I doing something wrong? Should this work the way I expect?
  • Is there a way of filing a bug report besides this forum?

Do you mean symlinks? I’m not aware of a way to create an alias from the command line.

You can e-mail eaglefiler@c-command.com.

yes. I was at first creating aliases in the finder, but they didn’t seem to work at all in eaglefiler. Symlinks are working how I would expect them to, but I get the error whenever I click on the item in eaglefiler.

It works for me to replace a file in EagleFiler with a symlink. The error you are getting looks as though the link is broken. Are you sure that it’s still pointing to a file that exists?

What does it mean that the symlink is “working how I would expect” if it isn’t working when you click on it?

It means exactly what it says on the tin. The symlinks work how I would expect them to.
I click on the link/file and I see the preview. I double click the link/file and the file opens. But every time I click on the link, EagleFiler pops up the error. Which is what makes me suspect that the error is erroneous and it’s an Eaglefiler bug rather than something I’m doing wrong with the link. See the attached screenshot.

Ah, I thought you were reporting that the error was in the main window. This particular error in the Errors window can be ignored if the file displays correctly. I will try to dig into what’s causing it.
