Hello,
I am back to EagleFiler after leaving DevonThink and the switch to the expensive subscription licence model.
I am about to import all documents from DevonThink to EagleFiler. So far so good.
I have a few folder I use very often. Now I wonder how to “save” these as favorite. I have not found out how to or is there a workaround? How do you create favorite folders for an easier access without several clicks through a folder hierarchy.
Thank, Claus
This specific feature is planned but doesn’t exist at present. Some potential workarounds:
-
You can flag or otherwise tag the favorite folders. To jump to the folder, click on flagged (or type Command-Option-6) to see the list of favorites. Then click on the one that you want and press Command-Down Arrow (Contents of Record) to view that folder.
-
You can use Copy Record Link to save links for favorite folders. Paste them into a rich text file (either in the library or not) or add them as favorites in LaunchBar (or your favorite launcher). You can also drag the text of a record link to Finder to create a
.inetloc
bookmark file that will open that folder in EagleFiler.
Thank you, Michael. I decided to choose path 1. I created a Smart Folder showing “flagged” items.
I have taken it one step further. My “favorites” are now flagged in red, with a saved search to display them. I open EF, display the red flag saved search, and close EF using the Orange (minimize) button. I have set up a short cut where F13 opens EF. Now when I press F13, EF opens with the red flag folder. Works great! Now if only I could move some of the saved searches to the top of the “Records List” …
I assume you mean the source list? Do you mean that you want the smart folders integrated with the regular folders or that you want to star some to appear above all the folders?
Hi Michael,
The top folder in my finder window is “Records” - all the other folders and sub folders are under that. That is how it was set up when I first set up my library.
Here is what my Library looks like:
I can get the folders in the order I want by prefacing them with numbers (03_, 08_, 10 _). There are gaps so I can insert new ones. Note the “Red Labels” searches for “favorites” that I have flagged red, and “Unfiled” the I use as an “InBox”, works fine. All I am saying is that it would be nice if I could move those to the top of the list.
And another “nit”, finder identifies a folder with a “file” icon, and files with a “type” icon. Your window does not distinguish between folders and files so I use the green tag to identify folders. I am trying to figure out a workaround to quickly identify folders - made an underscore starting each folder name.
And interestingly, when I click on “Records”, all of the files and folders are displayed, but not as a hierarchy with the files under the folders. I may have missed a setting.
I continue to like it.
Thanks for your great support.

Noted, thanks.
EagleFiler shows the icons by default, but it looks like you turned them off or moved that column over to the right. You can show the Icon column by right-clicking the column headers (e.g. where it says File).
That is the intended behavior.
