i’ll make this a feature request but i’ve only recently started EF so i’ll just post it here in case i’ve missed the option for a horizontal way of viewing fies in EF with two vertical columns and the preview not below but to the right, which for an ordinary page of text is more natural IMHO.

This is a feature that’s planned for the next major version of EagleFiler. In the meantime, you can sort of approximate it by hiding the viewer pane and opening the Quick Look window to the right of the main window.

but (of course) you can’t edit the file in a quick look window, so the workaround is not as nice as i thought 
Yes, to edit the file you would need to use the EagleFiler viewer pane or double-click the file to open it in a specialized editing app.
+1 from me for this feature, I also just started using EF and dug through all options/CLI settings to find this but couldn’t
