Mail App Not Responding

Sorry if this is off topic a bit. But… I have a new Mail problem that vaguely corresponds with the release of SpamSieve 3.05 along with the most recent updates to XProtect Remediator. That is, within the last week or so. Besides, Apple has been zero help with this and I know members here seem to know far more than any customer facing person at Apple.

A few days ago, Mail started acting really balky for me. It’s now routine to get a message telling me “Connecting” that’s accompanied by everybody’s favorite beach ball.

Moving messages from the Inbox to Trash often takes minutes.

For the first time since I started using Mail back in the Panther days, I’ve had to force quit Mail, multiple times.

At the very same time, my iPad connected to the same home network gleefully downloads new emails while the Mail app on the Studio goes comatose.

Has anybody noticed this behavior?

I’ve tried a system restart. I unconnected from the router and reconnected. I restarted in Safe mode. Nothing has worked for long.

Is this just the way it is now? Should I seriously look at the other email applications that work with SpamSieve? Any recommendations on that front?

Thanks very much. Sorry for the distraction and expressing my frustration.

I have not been hearing other reports of this problem, either now or in the Panther days. If Mail is not responding, it’s a good idea to record a sample of it to see why.

OK, thanks. I will do this.

I’ve just reset Mail’s junk database a few minutes ago. Maybe that’ll help.

Seems rather odd all around.

24 hours later…

The Mail junk database reset seems to have done the trick. Fingers crossed here. I never had to do that one before, so I was ignorant about it

Moving messages is still slow (Inbox to Trash), but that has always been hit or miss. I suspect that has more to do with the emailer provider. One account I have with iCloud.com performs the function quickly. The other with one of the AT&T Yahoo companies is the one that is slow. I wish I had a clue how to fix that, but it may not be possible from my end.

Anyway, no beach balls in the last 24 hours. It could be that the computer knew that I have Activity Monitor running on the Desktop, ready to capture a Sample of bad behavior. Kids, animals, and maybe computers known when they’re being scrutinized and are on the best behavior.
