Mail tagged as good from Junk folder disappears to archive

When I tag mail from my junk folder as “Good”, it momentarily shows up in the inbox then disappears to the archive. Any hints?

Are you using Apple Mail? Gmail?

Does this page help?

It happens on my Gmail that is accessed with AppleMail. I haven’t had it happen with mail on my Apple Mail address.

I’m having the same issue as of the last update. Should I turn Apple’s Junk Mail filtering on or off? I’ve turned it off to allow for SS to handle it all. Is this wrong?

Also, all the emails are getting flagged when I move them back (once I find them).

Most likely this is due to a Mail rule on another Mac. Please check the troubleshooting instructions here.

Which update are you referring to?

It should be off.

To be clear, you are saying that you select a message in Junk and choose Train as Good, then it moves to the Archive and gains a flag icon? Which color is the flag? Or are you manually dragging and dropping the message somewhere in those steps?

Yes. Green flag. And I’m only running on one desktop.

3.1.2b3

SpamSieve will add a green flag to new messages in the inbox if you have the Add green flag to unread good messages enabled. It’s possible that Mail or the server is treating the moved message as a different message and so SpamSieve is filtering it again. It will normally remove green flags after you read the message, but it doesn’t scan messages in Archive.

There were no changes to SpamSieve’s Mail integration in 3.1.2b3. It’s important to configure the Junk mailbox in Apple Mail to be the same as the server Junk mailbox to prevent messages moved to Junk from ending up in the archive. Also check that there isn’t another Mac or device accessing the same account that could be moving the message out of the Inbox.

Where is that Add green flag setting located? I don’t see it.

Gotcha! Thanks for your help. I don’t know how I missed it. I thought I checked all the tabs.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I found the green flag btw, I don’t know if I followed up.

However, when I move something via the dock Mark As Good, it puts the email in the INbox for a split second then moves any gmail acct received to Archive. What do you think is causing that?

Also, it’s catching a lot more spam now (great) but it’s not color coding them anymore (which isn’t the end of the world) but I wonder what could have caused that since I didn’t change that setting.

Thanks for all your help.

Usually this is caused by another computer/device moving the messages, although I think you said you only have one desktop Mac. There are some other possibilities listed here, e.g. if you have multiple accounts configured in Mail or if the Junk mailbox is not set to be stored on the server.

Which version of macOS are you using?

If it’s set to color spam messages but the messages aren’t being colored, most likely something else (like a server filter) is moving the messages to Junk before they get to your Mac, so SpamSieve isn’t even looking at them. You can confirm whether this is the case by seeing whether the Log window shows Predicted log entries for the messages in question (if not, it didn’t look at them).
