QNAP File Server

Rather than just going out and buying individual disks I thought that I would be smart and get a NAS device.

I bought a QNAP TS-453-Pro. It has a Samba Server on it.

As far as I can tell it does not have the capability to set up HPFS, Mac file system. When I copy files to the server unable to see their tags in Finder but I’m not able to edit them.

I could set up a iSCSI drive to my Mac but that would defeat the purpose of sharing the information between the Mac and PC.

I’m assuming because it does not have extended file attributes that I can store my EF library on the NAS.

Does anyone have any suggestions or workarounds.

I thought about creating the iSCSI drive and putting my library there and then just using good sync to move the files out to the PC but I have found over the years that syncing is very unreliable and can often cause somewhat catastrophic problems.

Thanks for the help,

Steve

EagleFiler does not depend on xattrs. It should work fine over SMB, although this will of course be slower than local storage.
