Screenshots

I take lots of screenshots with my iPhone. My current process has been to open the photos app on my MacBook every couple weeks and move them to Evernote. Each one gets a new note in Evernote, and I move it to the appropriate notebook and apply tags and text and task depending on the png. For example, I capture a quote that serves as a “tickler” to work on my Tailscale project and update the notes with more details about the project and task. Or I capture an Instagram Black Friday Ad for a cold plunge at Costco, or EDM party on December 14.

I would like to quit Evernote. Do you have any ideas on getting something similar working with Eagle Filer?

Basically, all these screenshots are associated with a task and I like having the image for quick browsing/searching. I will start using a screenshot tag, and maybe even create a new Eagle Filer library for screenshots. Is there an easy way to “ocr" the text from images and pdf in 2026 or should I just dictate all that into the notes of each record? I’m open to other tools like hookmark or apple reminders if that could help me tie the images to the task.

THANK YOU for an awesome product, and I look forward to finally cutting the cord on Evernote

What do you want to end up with in EagleFiler?

  • You could import each screenshot as an image record and then add your task text in the EagleFiler filename, title, or notes attached to the record. In this case, you could export the images from Photos to a folder in your EagleFiler library or Copy in Photos and then use File ‣ New Record ‣ From Clipboard. Or you could save them from your phone into iCloud Drive if you don’t want to clutter up Photos with them. This would also let you set the filename and tags right when taking the screenshot.

  • Or you could have the task be a rich text file with the screenshot embedded. In this case, one option would be to Copy in Photos and the make a new rich text record in EagleFiler and Paste.

  • Or do you mean that the task is in the Reminders app?

Currently, EagleFiler does not have built-in image OCR for searching. There are several options for PDF OCR for searching. There is built-in OCR to select text when viewing a PDF. I do plan to add automatic OCR for searching in a future version.
