What mechanisms are available to send an EF entry using one’s default mail client?
That is, other than clicking and dragging the entry to a msg in the client, are there services, etc., already available as alternatives?

There’s the E-mail Files script.
Also, Apple Mail has a “New Email With Attachment” service. On my Mac, it doesn’t seem to recognize the selected records in EagleFiler, which is odd because they work with other, similar services.
