smart folders and negative searches

I’m trying to search for records that do NOT have a particular tag. There is no obvious way to do it. The documentation of “smart folders” says that you can nest conditions in the search, so I could presumably set a negative condition as one of them. But I can’t actually find a way to do nesting.

I saw a mention of a Plist file that includes smart folders, but the two Eaglefiler.plist files I found did not include that information. (For some reason, Spotlight on my system won’t search Library, so I might have missed one.)

Does anyone have suggestions?

You can use None to make negative criteria. The manual says:

Option-click + to add a new Any/All/None grouping of criteria.
