Using the Bluetooth icon from the menu bar to toggle it on/off is many, many times faster almost instantly, while the ToothFairy icon brings up the spinner. When I switch my gamepad on, it reconnects automatically anyway.

The reason I purchased the app was to gain the ability to show the battery level. It says “Battery Level: Unknown”. In the app features list, it includes “gamepads” in the devices it works with, but in the fine print/known issues list, which I obviously missed, it adds “The battery level gauge works with devices whose battery level shows up in the Bluetooth pane of System Preferences”. Why would I need this feature at all from ToothFairy if it already shows up there?
I guess what I’m trying to figure out is:
• Am I doing something wrong that is preventing me from seeing the battery level?
• Without that feature, which I’m assuming is something a smaller percentage of users want, what exactly is the purpose of this app?
I’m about to uninstall it, and write off the $5 (another example of why I should never purchase a license for an app without a free trial), unless I can find some useful function here.
Thank you for any advice.
I’m sorry to hear that. There shouldn’t be a difference, as Apple has said that the API ToothFairy is using is the same one that macOS uses internally. It is instant in my tests. If you would like to send in a Bluetooth sysdiagnose as described at the bottom of this page, we can make a bug report to Apple to investigate this further.
Many users find it more convenient to see the battery level directly in the menu bar rather than having to open System Preferences.
Probably not. macOS just doesn’t support accessing the battery level for some devices. It works with nearly all the most popular ones. I have not tested with your particular gamepad, but most likely the battery information is just not available. If you would like, we can enable debug logging to dig into which information is being reported on your Mac.
As discussed on the product page, there are a variety of features aside from showing the battery level, including quick connections with a hotkey, status info, improving the audio quality, and automation. Some of these might not be relevant to your particular device and situation.
If you don’t find the app useful, you can request a refund.
I can already see the battery level of my AirPods from the menu bar; there’s never been a need to launch the system preferences. The Playstation 4 DualShock has to be one of the most widely used gamepads out there. That not being supported is definitely a dealbreaker for me. I’m sure you guys put a lot of work into it, so I don’t mean any insult, but I just can’t see the advantage the app provides for my AirPods either. I don’t know if requesting a refund will be worth the effort, but I’ll see.
Thanks for the quick reply.
