SpamSieve 3.2.1 hanging on Tahoe 26.1

Hi - Latest SpamSieve is reliably hanging for me, shortly after launching Mail. I’m on Tahoe 26.1. I’ve redownloaded and reinstalled, but SpamSieve goes to “Application not responding” after several seconds to a minute of running. Happens regardless of whether it autolaunches with Mail or if I launch it manually. I can right-click on the app icon to kill it after it hangs, but otherwise it and the menu bar icon become unresponsive.

When SpamSieve hangs, Mail still works but I’m not able to categorize anything as spam or good any more.

When I kill the program and restart, I can get to the log and see this before SpamSieve hangs with a spinning cursor. Any idea what’s up?

Thanks for sending the sample reports. It looks like some content in this particular message is triggering a macOS bug when SpamSieve tries to read the message. If you drag that crash log entry from the list in the Log window to Finder, it will export it, and if you send me that file I can try to reproduce/fix the problem here.

Just sent - exporting the crash log actually dumped out an email, so I’ll try deleting it from my mail.

That solved the problem - thanks! Curious what about that file caused SS to hang. Thanks again!

Thanks! I think this is fixed in SpamSieve 3.2.2b3. The message had an invalid Cc header containing almost 2,000 spaces, which triggered a regular expression performance bug.

Awesome, thank you. Glad that I now know how to look in the log for an offending email - super easy. Unfortunately I deleted the email with the long header so can’t verify, but I’ll install the beta app anyway. Thanks again.

It’s not necessary in this case, since I’ve tested with your exact message, but you can also use the log to bring deleted/lost messages back into Apple Mail.
