SpamSieve Public Beta and macOS 14 Sonoma

The beta is open to the public. If you click the link in the first post to enable beta updates, you should be able to get them by going to the Software Update window in SpamSieve.

I don’t know which workaround you’re referring to. It sounds like there may be a setup problem, which I could look into if you send in a diagnostic report.

I recommend following the SpamSieve uninstall instructions. Third-party apps don’t know how to properly uninstall SpamSieve.

That said, the window that you’re getting does not look like something that would be triggered by SpamSieve proper. It looks like maybe you installed an extra AppleScript (app or Mail rule) that is trying to talk to SpamSieve.

Congratulations and thank you for version 3.0b. The installation was a breeze and details like the auto-import during install are much appreciated (I am a Mac developer myself, so I know details matter).
Thank you !

Does SpamSieve 3 use the same Remote Training configuration and script as SS2?

Yes, you can keep using the same rule and script.

Well, the subject says it. If I initiate software update the progress indicator pops up, but just sits there with a tiny blue segment.

Please see record a sample log when this happens and send it to spamsieve@c-command.com.

Hi! I installed the latest beta version. I can declare emails as spam but SpamSieve does not move entering emails to the spam folder when they arrive. I checked the settings but couldn’t find the reason.

Please see #4 and #6 in Section 7.1.1 in the manual in the Help menu and contact me at spamsieve@c-command.com if that doesn’t answer your question.

I would like to participate in the Spamsieve Public Beta testing.

You can sign up your copy of SpamSieve by clicking here.

In Gmail there is a “Spam” folder. I am unable to select SpamSieve Filter this folder (Settings → Apple Mail → Filtering → Filter Spam messages in other mailboxes → Select mailboxes to Filter …). This shows up in the “Unread” Smart Mailbox, but does not show up as SpamSieve having Filtered/touched it (no Flags, text color changes, nor background changes). I can “Train as Spam” or “Train as Good” but it never seems to be automatically checked by Spam Sieve.

This mailbox seems to be controlled but he server (I delete it, it reapears); I seem to have no control over what is put into it.

I have a similar “Spam” filter on an personal IMAP Account that seems to behave the same way.

I am running SpamSieve 3.0b5 under the current Sonoma (macOS 14.0) Beta.

This feature is not intended for filtering spam mailboxes from other spam filters. I recommend that you click the Setting the Junk Mailbox help link in that settings pane for instructions on how to tell Mail to use that Spam mailbox as the special Junk mailbox. Then both the server and SpamSieve spam will be there together, and it will not show up in smart mailboxes.

Spam messages caught by a server junk filter are not SpamSieve mistakes and so should not be trained.

You can turn off the server filter or set SpamSieve to rescue the good messages that were incorrectly caught.

Michael,

Setting the “Junk Mailbox” to the “Spam” Mailboxes on the GMail & IMAP seams to have changed the “Spam” Mailbox to “Junk” Mailbox. Both are showing up now in "All Junk”. The IMAP mailbox entries are mostly showing up as put there now by Spam Sieve. Looking for ways to turn off Server Side Spam filtering. Looks like I need to point all Mailboxes at the Server Side Junk/Spam mailboxes to get things to consolidate to a “single” Junk mailbox (All Junk).

Thanks for the hints. Quite a bit different then the v1 & v2 Spam Sieve configurations. Should get this to work in a way similar to pre v3, but there is a migration effort for the configuration.

Please see the link above.

Yes.

I’m not following this…we recommended the same server filter and Junk mailbox configuration with version 2.

Looking for ways to turn off Server Side Spam filtering.

Disable GMail filtering … and fixed a few other annoying settings while I was there.

Been using my same setup since my original install of v1 … The SpamSieve Rule put everything into a Local “Spam” mailbox. It just kept working when v1 came out and haven’t really needed to change anything up until this point (so hadn’t even re-visited that section of the documentation).

I have been doing email for so long (private versions since 1980 & personal since 1984) I don’t revisit my configurations unless I am having issues. I guess it is time to do it again.

Hey folks,

Not sure if I did something wrong. I received two messages marked as spam. I placed them in my remote train good folder which fired and they ended up back in the junk folder. This setup has been working for years so I’m unsure what may have happened. Looking at the script it’s the latest one on the site. This is with beta 5. When the script fired I received the notification of the spam score.
Note that I am using the always on app type setup and not a rule within mail if that matters. SpamSieve in use on a single device. All training done remotely.

Please look in the Log window to see whether those messages were trained as good and/or predicted to be spam after that training.

Thanks Michael,

I don’t see my manual training listed. I tried it again and they went to the correct location and the log reflected the manual training. Gremlins. Sorry for the noise.

I also would like to participate in the beta testing.
