Previously, when importing a webpage using the “Archive in Eaglefiler” link, the webpage remained unchanged. Now, after I click the link, the webpage content is something like:
x-eaglefiler://import?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F&askForOptions=1
I can retrieve the original webpage by refreshing the address.
Nothing has changed with EagleFiler here. I guess your browser—which are you using?—is handling bookmarklets differently than before. Or maybe you have a browser extension that’s interfering.
There are other and probably better ways to import from sites like the NYT that have protected content. Please see Importing Private Web Pages.
It seems like there’s a bug in Firefox 133, as bookmarklets that talk to other apps aren’t working, either. I will investigate. In the meantime, there are some other ways to import from Firefox:
Drag and drop the icon from the Firefox location bar to an EagleFiler window, Drop Pad, or Dock icon.
Select the text in the Firefox location bar and press one of the services hotkeys.
The bookmarklet doesn’t do anything. I thought this is what you were reporting since this is what I saw after updating to Firefox 133, but upon rereading maybe it was still working for you. If the bookmarklet isn’t working, you can try one of the other import methods that I mentioned above. Or, I also found some potential workarounds:
If you had followed the instructions to set Firefox’s security.external_protocol_requires_permission setting to false in about:config. I found that if I set it to true and invoke the bookmarklet then it works. And then I can set it back to false and it will still work.
Or, going to Firefox’s Privacy & Security settings, I had it set to Standard. If I set it to Custom and Cookies and the other items, and then set it back to Standard, the problem seems to go away.
After invoking the bookmarklet, whether or not it worked, Firefox shows the x-eaglefiler: URL in the window instead of showing the page content. This also seems to be a Firefox bug but I don’t yet know of a workaround other than reloading the page.
