Can the rescue good message script automatically delete messages identified as spam be Apples server side filters? (not seen by SpamSieve) The large amount of server side spam being sent directly to the spam/junk folder from Apple is overwhelming. Marking it read is a big help, but processing/deleting it after the fact still requires visiting 2 mailboxes when a single inbox would be optimal. Thanks
No.
I strongly recommend setting SpamSieve to use the same Junk mailbox as the server filter.
Thanks Michael for the reply, at least you answer us. Apples “We know best” mentality is driving me to seek other options. I am using the same Junk mailbox as the server filter, and am reminded on a daily basis by the unread number of messages sitting there, forcing me to visit it and check for good messages. Prompting my comment about having to visit 2 mailboxes. (Inbox and Junk)
Oh, I thought you meant that you had separate Junk and Spam mailboxes. Having both Junk and Inbox is unavoidable. You don’t want spam in the Inbox, right? You could set SpamSieve to move some or all of the spams to Trash instead, so that there are fewer to review in Junk.
That is my current setup, unfortunately my good emails, 1 or 2 every couple of days can’t compete with the 30-50 server side spam that comes in daily. Spamsieve is no help with them until I run the script, or run it as stand alone to at least mark them read. I guess I have OCD and can’t stand to look at unread counts in my mail. Your program would auto delete these spams if they did come into my inbox, Apple refuses to let us turn off the server side filters and thinks we enjoy checking junk and inbox every time we check our mail. They don’t even know we are using our own, or your solution that would make quick work of these issues.
I guess my thinking on my original question was, If the script can run and move good messages to the inbox, why can’t it move not good to trash? I mean Apple has already called it junk and your script has verified their assessment. I see in the script options to move colored messages to trash, seems the only hole in the process is moving the already checked junk from apple server and the rescue script to the trash.
I’m just venting at this point, thanks for listening and the excellent program, I know it is not your job to clean up Apples mess. After reporting thousands of spams to abuse and only seeing an increase in volume has me at wits end.
Yes, those options in the script are for moving messages caught by the server junk filter to the trash if SpamSieve thinks they’re spam. I said “no” in the initial reply because it sounded like you wanted the script to move messages without having SpamSieve look at them.
If you delete spam messages in the trash without reviewing them, you may want to turn off auto-training.
Confused, so the script will delete server side junk, that did not come into my inbox after it has verified it’s not good by the script. I guess the confusion is this spam is marked brown by apple and goes straight into junk, it never gets a color. I’ve not enable the move colored to trash, because I did not think it would do anything since it was not colored by SpamSieve.
The entire purpose of the script is to process messages that were marked brown by a server filter and moved straight to Junk.
Duh, I feel like a fool, for not trying this years ago. Edited the script and it did what I had hoped. Thanks for your time.
