I am having many issues with Apple Mail and SpamSieve, and others. My corp gives us a massive large mail store and Apple Mail will download it ALL. This is causing issues with products like MailSteward. For SpamSieve It fails to move messages, and hangs Apple Mail waiting on O365.
My go to was switch to Outlook, and use the ‘large email’ solution, but we have already stopped support for Legacy on our servers, aka Legacy will not download email.
Some searching and looks like we are at the end of Legacy, so is there a plan?
How many messages are in your account? From SpamSieve’s perspective, Mail should be able to scan and move messages so long as the Inbox and Junk mailbox are of reasonable size. And macOS Tahoe makes some changes that improve Apple Mail’s handling of large mailboxes.
Microsoft has said that they will be discontinuing Legacy Outlook, and they’ve also said that they will restore AppleScript support to New Outlook beforehand. So, in theory, SpamSieve should be able to work with New Outlook, though I’ve not seen this support in a beta version yet.
Today I was forced into New Outlook and have lost SpamSieve’s ability to “Train as.” I just signed up less than a month ago and it was working so well. Is there anything I can do?
It does nothing just reverts back to New Outlook. My office 365 just renewed and I think they took that option away from me. Version 16.100.3 (25083017).
Do you know where you downloaded it? Is it a beta? When I look in the App Store, I only see version 16.100.2, and that’s also the latest version shown on Microsoft’s release notes. They do list 16.100.3 for other Office apps, but not for Outlook.
They do take the option away if you’re running Outlook in free mode.
My Office 365 subscription just renewed today. I have had this setup for quite a while. I don’t have any control over what I get with the subscription but I do have auto update on. I know that Microsoft is not supporting the Legacy Outlook on the Mac after October 2025. Maybe they just updated me with this newer version with the subscription renewal. I am definitely not using the free version. It is not a beta version - I checked.
Do you think I should download the app from the App Store? The 16.100.2? I can do that and sign in and it is still under my MS 365 account. But then what happens in October when I am again forced into the “New” app? I have temporarily moved to Apple Mail and everything is working fine.
If I log into my Microsoft account and download the full installer, it gives me 16.100.2. It’s probably easier to get the current App Store version, though, and then sign in. That works.
I’m trying to get answers from Microsoft about precisely what is happening in October.
I think what happened is that you were signed up for the Current Channel (Preview) in Microsoft AutoUpdate. This will offer the 16.100.3 version that is not yet released. If you go to Outlook ‣ Help ‣ Check for Updates ‣ Advanced…, you can set the Update Channel to Current Channel, and then it will keep you on 16.100.2, which works with SpamSieve.
This will download a standalone installer for version 16.100, which will auto-update to 16.100.2 if you are on Current Channel.
I talked with Microsoft, and they confirmed that they intend to support Legacy Outlook through October 31. At that point, New Outlook will not work with SpamSieve because it doesn’t yet support AppleScript, so there is no way for SpamSieve to access the message data. They originally said they would implement AppleScript support before discontinuing Legacy Outlook but now intend to add it back in December:
This functionality is not yet in beta, so we haven’t seen/tested it yet, but assuming that it works we should be able to restore SpamSieve’s support for Outlook at that time.
In the interim, I’m working on a way for people to be able to use New Outlook for their mail and for training SpamSieve, while running Apple Mail (in the background) to do the actual filtering.
