SpamSieve encountered error -1751 (errOSAlnvalidlD - ):

I had used Spamsieve some years ago.

I got the latest version installed. I am running Sequoia 15.6.1 Mac Mini Intel

The program is working but I am getting frequent errors and I have to restart the computer to restart indicating Spam. A dialog stating the above error and a Spamsieve icon

I am using Apple Mail

An AppleScript error occurred

SpamSieve encountered error -1751
(errOSAlnvalidlD - ):

Thanks

Is the error occurring by itself or only in response to your asking SpamSieve to train a message as spam?

And you are saying that restarting your Mac temporarily fixes the problem? For how long?

It occurs only when I am training as Spam.

I can get through some training and then when I come back latter the error occurs.

See attached PDF.

I used SpamSieve about 10 years ago a lot. I don’t know why I stopped exactly . But I seem to have a lot more junk that Apple Mail does not know what to do with.
So I thought I would try again.

Thanks

Does it help if you quit and relaunch Mail?

I did this earlier and the program is running fine so far.

I will continue to test different scenarios.

My ISP sends sends mailcleaner reports of items removed as spam. I never had time to read them and I may have told Apple mail they were junk.
Don’t remember.

I have not gotten these for awhile. But after training items as spam they have sent me 6 of these.

Not sure why they quit sending them but SpamSieve seems to have gotten their attention.

Thanks

I continue to get this error from time to time. The error dialog would indicate that this is coming from something SpamSieve is doing.

I will continue to see if I can get more information what I might be using or doing that causes this.

I also purchased DropDMG and this is easier to use than DISKIMAGE

Thanks

It seems like SpamSieve asking Mail to do something with the message (probably move it to Junk), and Mail is reporting an error. Is it possible that you have another Mac or device that’s doing something with the same message at the same time? It could also just be a bug in Mail causing this. You could click here to enable some extra debug logging and then save a diagnostic report the next time the problem occurs so that we can see more about where the error is happening.

Thanks

I’ll run the debug

Bill Parks

Thanks for the diagnostic report. Please make sure that you have granted SpamSieve Full Disk Access.

Thanks

Full Disc Access seemed to work great.

After some time the error continues to be an issue and is becoming more frequent.

Restarting the computer seems to correct the situation sometimes and less frequently effective.

Thanks for the update. Does it make a difference if you quit and relaunch SpamSieve vs. restarting the Mac?

Does the error occur if you train a message right away? Or only after SpamSieve has been running for a while?

Michael

I did the Full Disk Access correction and things seemed to work for a while but now I am getting the same AppleScript error as before and sometimes even restarting does not
make it go away.

I am using Sequoia 15.6.1 on an intel Mac Mini. Apple Mail.

Any other ideas.

I think this program is very helpful and would like this error to stop.

Thanks

Bill Pakrs

I continue to use DropDMG an it is very helpful

It may also help to boot your Mac in safe mode.

Does the error occur if you train a message right after launch SpamSieve? Or only after SpamSieve has been running for a while?

If the problem still occurs, please click here and here to enable some extra debug logging.

I have run safe mode and that does not fix the issue.

It would appear that the error occurs after running Apple Mail for awhile and once occurring restarting mail and the computer
does not always correct the issue but it finally goes away.

Thanks

Bill

After enabling both debug logging options, the next time the problem occurs, please use the Save Diagnostic Report command in the Help menu and send me the report file.

If may also help to click this link, which will tell SpamSieve to start a fresh AppleScript environment for each command.

Michael

Attached is the diagnostic report. I continue to have intermittent but frequent AppleScript errors.

SpamSieve has reduced the amount of political and other junk which I greatly appreciate. But I am having to restart my work station
sometime twice to get it working.

Thanks

Thanks for the report. It does not look like you tried the debug link mentioned in the previous post.

It’s very strange that this error is only occurring when you train a message a spam, not when SpamSieve is filtering messages automatically. It also seems to be happening before SpamSieve has asked Mail to do anything with the message, so it’s unclear what’s going wrong.

A couple other customers have reported getting a -1751 error, but you are the only one who’s getting it persistently. I wish I knew what was different about your Mac.

There are a few other things I’d recommend trying in order to help isolate the problem:

  • When you get the error training a message as spam, do you also get the error if you select the same message and choose Filter Messages from the SpamSieve menu bar icon?

  • When you get the error training a message as spam, does it work to select a different (good) message and choose Train as Good?

  • Does it work to train messages by enabling the Train messages in TrainSpam and TrainGood setting and moving messages to the TrainSpam mailbox instead of using the Train as Spam menu command?

Thanks

I did try your suggestion to reset the AppleScript each time we do the Spam training as you directed.

I have done some AppleScript and actually wrote a program a Object-oriented AppleScript Folder Action script to file my business bills, correspondence and other files in a folder for 19 separate LLCs, SCorps, Trusts and Individuals accounts. Each type of entity has a different set of folders.

All records are downloaded or scanned and easy to understand filing codes at the end of the file.

You can drop 20 files coded by entity in the root folder and the files are filed to each entity and subfolder.

I wonder if you might like to look at this sometime.

Thanks
